Information in the report represent the shared interests of the </SPAN><A href="http://www.fisherycouncils.org:80/" STYLE="text-decoration:underline;"><SPAN>eight regional fishery management councils</SPAN></A><SPAN> (Councils) around the country who, along with the Secretary of Commerce, manage fisheries in the U.S. EEZ waters. The report is intended to recommend conservation areas in the EEZ for inclusion in the the American Conservation and Stewardship Atlas (Atlas), and the </SPAN><A href="https://www.doi.gov:443/sites/doi.gov/files/report-conserving-and-restoring-america-the-beautiful-2021.pdf" STYLE="text-decoration:underline;"><SPAN>America the Beautiful</SPAN></A><SPAN> (ATB) effort. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>For the purposes of this effort, the CCC ABM Subcommittee defined a conservation area as: 1) an established, geographically defined area, with 2) planned management or regulation of environmental adverse fishing activities, that 3) provides for the maintenance of biologically productivity and biodiversity, ecosystem function and services (including providing recreational opportunities and healthy, sustainable seafood to a diverse range of consumers). </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>Data are current as of March 31st, 2022. The full spatial extent of the areas is included in the dataset, but the associated report summarizes only U.S. EEZ waters, excluding state and territorial waters.
