This dataset documents fish distribution and habitat use types from data submitted to the regional StreamNet and CalFish projects by partner agencies. This dataset was compiled from separate spatial datasets contributed by partners as of March 12, 2026 and includes for ALL SPECIES documented in a single feature class depicting fish distribution streams. A separate, companion feature class documents regional fish distribution lakes. The hydrography used to construct this feature class primarily originates from and is coincident with the High Resolution National Hydrography Dataset (NHD-HR). Distribution is based upon survey data and, in some cases, the best professional judgement of local fish biologists, in the Pacific Northwest Region (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and California). These data were collected by biologists at the state fish & wildlife agencies of Washington (WDFW), Oregon (ODFW), Idaho (IDFG), Montana (MFWP), and California (CDFW). These separate partner agency source layers (identified in the References section of this metadata record) were submitted to the GIS staff at Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) where PSMFC GIS Center staff conducted combined source data in to a single consistent regional dataset that meets the regionally agreed upon fish distribution data standard (for streams and lakes). These and other related data are available for download from the StreamNet and CalFish website and are also publicly available on ArcGIS Online and via public web mapping applications.

These data are intended for use in a variety of applications where fish distribution and activity is important. Data are collected at various scales by StreamNet's partners. This dataset represents believed instances of fish distribution or habitat that likely supports fish distribution, and as every stream has not been fully evaluated, this is not an all-inclusive list of fish distribution in this region. Each line included in this feature class represents a stream segment of suitable habitat currently believed to be utilized by wild, natural, and/or hatchery fish populations and/or streams where sightings of wild, natural, and/or hatchery fish have been documented. Please carefully note values in the [UseType] field to clearly identify streams that are being identified as 'Historical' use areas for some species. This inclusion is intentional though not yet compiled for all species region-wide. Please read the metadata thoroughly and contact PSMFC's GIS team (gis@psmfc.org) with specific questions - especially if using this dataset in any official assessment efforts.

" }
